Two Vegas Casinos Reinstate Smoking

According to recent reports, two famous Las Vegas properties have decided to bring back smoking to their casino gaming tables. These venues are The Venetian Resort and its sister property, the Palazzo, both of which are prominent fixtures on the Las Vegas Strip.

These popular casino resorts attract many people from around the world, but they have recently found themselves at the center of controversy. This comes after the recent announcement that the two properties will reintroduce smoking at casino gaming tables from this month.

This reversal of its non-smoking policy was revealed in a press release from The Venetian Resort. The two properties now permit guests seated at table games to smoke cigarettes, cigars, and use vape devices. The statement clarifies, however, that the consumption of marijuana will continue to be banned within the casino premises, in line with Las Vegas regulations.

Based on Feedback About Smoking Policies

Officials from the resorts said that the decision had been made based on feedback about smoking policies. The press release stated:

We have received continuous feedback regarding our smoking policy. This has prompted us to review and ultimately update the policy.

The press release also emphasized the casino’s dedication to remaining “competitive and strategic” in its business approach.

For visitors who prefer a smoke-free environment, the company has stated that their preferences will be accommodated. Upon request, table game supervisors or floor managers will direct guests to non-smoking tables.

The decision to reintroduce smoking has already sparked a backlash among casino dealers and health advocates. The resort stated that while smoking will be permitted at table games, the rest of the casino floor remains smoke-free, and smoking is strictly banned within the suites, as well as on the outdoor pool decks.

However, despite these assurances from the two casino resorts, the health implications of this latest policy are substantial, according to some. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) previously stated that the only effective measure to ensure clean indoor air in casinos was a complete ban on tobacco use.

In a study investigating air quality, the CDC found elevated levels of hazardous Particulate Matter (PM) even in areas designated as smoke-free. The federal agency has warned that advanced air filtration systems are inadequate in eliminating the risk of secondhand smoke.

Going Against the Grain

The move by The Venetian Resort goes against the grain compared to many other businesses and public venues that have adopted more restrictive smoking policies. Health experts maintain that there are significant risks associated with secondhand smoke, which include an increased likelihood of coronary heart disease, stroke, and lung cancer. The risk increases with prolonged exposure in environments where smoking is permitted.

The reintroduction of smoking at table games is a controversial decision, with arguments for and against the move. Many casinos have expressed concerns over the impact of a smoking ban on visitor numbers, as many people enjoy smoking while gambling. However, the health implications of the move also have to be taken into consideration.
