Queen of Terre Haute Casino

It has been announced by the casino operator Churchill Downs Inc that construction on the up-and-coming Queen of Terre Haute Casino Resort is to begin later this month. Company officials said that there will be a ground-breaking ceremony held for the Indiana resort on June 21st and that this will take place in the morning.

The ceremony will take place at the site where construction is set to begin, and this space spans 50 acres. The cost of the development is estimated at $260 million, and it is hoped that if everything runs smoothly, it could be up and running by the end of next year.

Originally, the casino resort was going to be constructed at a smaller site close to the Haute City Center Mall. Plans for building on this smaller site were unveiled last year after the company secured its new casino license for Vigo County.

However, it was announced earlier this year that the location had changed to a much larger rural one close to Terre Haute Regional Airport.

Great for the Local Economy

Officials said that the ground-breaking ceremony has been arranged for exactly 31 weeks after the license was granted to the company.

The company believes that it will bring in people from around the state and said that it was set to be a ‘great day’. One official added:

We’ve been trying to set something up for a month or two. We thought we’d have to move it to July but then we arrived at the June 21 date.

The new casino resort is expected to be great for the local economy in many ways, and the benefits will begin right away with the creation of around 1,000 construction jobs as the resort is being built.

According to company officials, there will also be around 500 casino and resort jobs combining both full-time and part-time positions once the facility is built. The annual payroll is estimated at over $20.5 million, and the casino will have more than 1,000 slot machines as well as more than four dozen gaming tables.

The new development is set to help boost tourism in the area as well, which means that other businesses and the area as a whole will benefit from the rising numbers of visitors who head over to enjoy the entertainment at the casino.

Of course, there are also the tax dollars to consider, which will enable added financial support for local communities and could help to bring in a lot of additional revenue. This is something that could make a big difference to state finances after the problems caused in the last two years by the global pandemic and its impact on businesses, tourism, and the state as a whole.

Once the casino resort has been completed, there will also be a retail sportsbook located onsite, and a number of bars and restaurants for visitors and guests to choose from. In addition to this, there will be an exciting rooftop bar and a hotel with 125 rooms.
