New technology rules for gaming tables are expected in MGM Resorts Table Games Technology Policy Overhauled by MGM

According to recent reports, MGM Resorts International has made some updates to its table games policies and has notified gaming table employees accordingly. The updates relate to the use of technology at the gaming table by gamblers, such as taking photos and video footage of their gameplay to stream to online platforms.

Several changes have been made in relation to when gamblers can and cannot use technology at the gaming tables within MGMs casinos. The reworking of the rules has been implemented by the MGM Table Games Operation Department.

Photos and videos of their play can be added or streamed to social media or other sites under certain conditions, such as getting permission beforehand from the casino, and as long as it does not interfere with the gameplay of others.

Changes to the Policy

As part of the new table games policy when it comes to using technology, players will be able to receive and send text messages providing it does not disrupt the game. They can also make calls and take personal photographs as long as it does not cause disruption to the game.

In a memo, the company stated:

The new policy is aimed at allowing our guests to take photos and videos, and, when appropriate, to share that content in real or in near real-time via social media broadcasts (‘streams’ or ‘streaming’) while limiting the risks associated with allowing photography, filming, and streaming in MGM Resorts’ gaming establishments.

Those who do want to live stream must get permission from the casino prior to their game.

The company operates nine of the major casino resorts in the area, and this includes famous landmark resorts, such as MGM Grand, Bellagio, Excalibur, and Mandalay Bay, among others. The loosening of the rules when it comes to using technology at the gaming tables will apply across its Nevada properties.

Still Some Restrictions in Place

Officials from MGM have said, however, that there are still some restrictions in place when it comes to gambler etiquette at the gaming tables. For instance, patrons will still not be allowed to leave any items on the tables for an extended period, and they cannot get involved in lengthy phone conversations while they are at the table.

In addition, patrons will not be allowed to take photos or video footage of gaming equipment, including the shuffling machines for cards, roulette wheels, and surveillance equipment at the casino. They also cannot take photos or videos of employees or other gamblers, and no audio of the game can be recorded. Likewise, no audio can be played by gamblers at the tables.

The new rules from MGM have now been issued, but the company has said that they could be changed at any time. As part of the rules, the company reserves the right to make modifications if deemed necessary.

It was also revealed that special circumstances are to be considered for VIP players as well as those who play in high-limit rooms and those who play at reserved tables at the gambling properties.
