Kick Reveals New Rules
Streaming platform Kick is clamping down on its policy to limit content that is said to be exploitative and harmful. These new rules will only allow users to stream content from approved gambling sites. In a statement revealed on 26 November 2024, Kick said that a few adjustments have already been implemented but users can expect more coming in the new year from 1 February 2025.
Some New Rules
As of the 1 February 2025, Kick will not allow streams of gambling sites that do not use a form of ID verification. This will ensure that users are all at least 18 years old and that no underage gambling is taking place.
This is an important shift for the site, as it has become a popular place for streams promoting crypto gambling sites, sweepstakes casinos, and similar operators. Kicks primary competitor, Twitch, banned most gambling sites in 2022 except for those that are domestically regulated.
Kick was established as an alternative to Twitch from the beginning by Stake.com co-founders Bijan Tehrani and Ed Craven. This was to bring in Twitch gambling streamer Trainwrecks to help the development of the new platform. It also featured prominent gambling streamers Adin Ross and xQc join forces, which have very young followers.
Popular gambling streamer, Xposed had this to say on X, previously known as Twitter,
All this shows is control over their website entirely and to make everybody come back to Stake and promote only their product. On top of that, for any streamer that is streaming other gambling websites, viewers are deflated, and they are not allowed to be shown on the front page or on the recommended section of Kick, making them more difficult to discover, which hurts the streamers who aren’t streaming Stake, backing them into a corner.
What the New Rules Mean for Sweeps Casinos
Generally, sweeps casinos require ID verification to ensure users are 18 years or older. However, sometimes the verification only happens when cashing out, but some require ID verification upon account setup. Based on what Kick has said about the new rules, users should still be able to watch streams of all legit sweeps casinos that use age verification.
Kick says its new streaming rules are essential to protect the younger users, who can sometimes be as young as 13. The only verification Kick itself applies is a pop-up for those trying to view mature content streams, asking them to click a button to confirm they’re over 18.
