Huge Renovation Project Begins
It has been reported that the Eureka Casino Resort in Mesquite, Nevada has embarked on a massive $40 million renovation project. The work started in mid-April and aims to revamp all 212 guestrooms of the resort’s hotel along with the expansive 40,300-square-foot casino floor. At present, the hotel and casino are situated in separate structures, split by a parking lot.
The Executive Chairman of Eureka, Greg Lee, unveiled the ambitious plans recently, highlighting the commitment of the employee-owned company in terms of improving its facilities.
The venture is a huge investment for the organization, which owns the flagship Mesquite location as well as owning and managing other properties such as the Rising Star Sports Ranch in Mesquite, Eureka Casino in Las Vegas, and The Brook in New Hampshire.
The refurbishment project not only focuses on the guestrooms and casino floor but will also include a comprehensive revitalization of the resort’s dining options. The makeover commenced with the renovation of Gregory’s Mesquite Grill, which is the popular fine-dining steakhouse situated within the casino premises.
Casino First Opened in 1997
Eureka’s history dates back to 1997 when Lee’s parents established the casino to cater to the growing gambling market in regions like Arizona and Utah. Over the years, Mesquite has become a popular retreat for residents of Las Vegas and neighboring areas.
In 2015, Lee’s family sold the casino to its employees, making Eureka the sole 100 percent employee-owned casino company in Nevada. Lee views the $40 million investment as just the start of broader plans for the property. Further investment could be planned for the future once the initial project is completed.
He said that Mesquite had grown and changed hugely since he and his parents established the business. Lee added:
We want Eureka to grow and change with it. I believe Mesquite is one of the top residential communities in the Southwest and I want to be sure Eureka looks like and captivates the greatness and authenticity of this community.
Upon the completion of the hotel, casino, and dining area renovations, Eureka aims to enhance its footprint by incorporating mixed-use components, including residential units and retail establishments. The planned mixed-use development is to be situated on vacant land behind the casino. It will include the construction of apartments and condos, with provisions earmarked for employee housing as well.
Growth of Gaming in the Mesquite Area
The popularity and growth of Mesquite’s gaming market have been impressive over recent years, and this has been backed by data from the Nevada Gaming Control Board. The gaming board reported modest yet steady growth in the area. Gross gaming revenue from Mesquite casinos came to approximately $183.6 million last year, reflecting a slight increase of 0.5 percent compared to 2022 figures.
Officials said that Eureka’s ambitious renovation project not only reflects its commitment to keeping up with changing consumer needs and preferences but also highlights its dedication when it comes to playing its part in the growth of the gaming market in the Mesquite area.
