Red Rock Resorts Casino Durango Casino and Resort

There was some disappointing news recently for casino fans looking forward to the opening of a long-awaited facility in Las Vegas. In a surprising turn of events, gaming giant Red Rock Resorts recently revealed that there is a delay with the eagerly awaited opening of the Durango Casino and Resort.

The opening of the facility had been initially scheduled for November 20, but a number of factors have led to delays, according to officials.

Red Rock Resorts has announced a postponement of more than two weeks, setting a new opening date of December 5. This delay means patrons eager to explore the new gambling and leisure destination will have to wait a little longer.

Several Sections of Resort Not Yet Complete

The $780 million project, located in southwest Las Vegas, faced setbacks due to incomplete sections of the resort, according to officials from Red Rock.

The announcement came during Red Rock Resorts’ third-quarter earnings conference call on November 7. Steven Cootey, the Chief Financial Officer of Red Rock, said that the decision to delay the opening was taken to ensure there were no hitches when the property did eventually open its doors.

Lorenzo Fertitta, Vice Chairman of the company, said that certain key areas of the resort were not yet finished, leading to the decision to delay. However, specific details about which parts of the resort are affected were not disclosed in the statement.

Fertitta elaborated on the reasoning behind the delay, stating that there was not enough time for staff training and preparation, among other things. He stressed the importance of ensuring high-quality service from the day of opening. He said:

We didn’t feel like it gave us enough time to properly train our staff and our team members in the venues and be able to have the appropriate load-in days and then play days.

He added that the most important thing was to ensure there was an excellent level of service on the day of opening.

Despite the setback, the construction costs are not expected to rise. The Durango Casino and Resort has been under construction for almost 20 months. The strategic location means that it will be the only casino within a five-mile radius, serving over 250,000 adults in the area.

What the Resort will Offer

Upon completion, the resort will boast 83,000 square feet of space. It is set to include a 201-room hotel, a casino featuring approximately 2,300 slot machines and 63 table games, and a variety of dining options. This includes four full-service restaurants and a 25,000-square-foot food hall.

In addition, the property will offer 20,000 square feet of convention and meeting space, alongside a resort pool area.

When it comes to employment, the resort is expected to provide jobs for around 1,700 individuals. According to a report in The Nevada Independent, the postponement will not impact the resort’s employees financially, as Red Rock Resorts has committed to compensating its staff, including salaries and tips, starting from the original opening date of November 20.
